The Anacortes School District works in collaboration with child welfare agencies, community partners, and families to provide educational stability to children and youth in foster care.  

 

Students in foster care or awaiting foster care are entitled to additional support and have a right to:

 

  • Immediate enrollment and support from the district's Family and Student Service Coordinator or Foster Care Liaison in obtaining school records and coordinating services;

  • When feasible and in the best interest of the child, continue in the district/school they attended (referred to as the district/school of origin) before they entered foster care or while awaiting foster care;

  • Get transportation to and from the school of origin;

  • Free school meals;

  • Receive additional services such as ELL, Special Education, Title 1, preschool, highly capable (gifted), or career/technical education.
