The Anacortes School Board recently adopted the district’s annual goals for the 2021-22 school year. The district and school board have spent the last year reviewing and revising the goals from the district’s current Strategic Plan, and reformatting the district’s Annual Operating Plan

Included in this year’s goals are:

  • Ensuring equitable student access to rigorous course offerings and curricula and multiple pathways for success (1.4a and 1.4b)

  • Enhancing partnerships with the community to support social emotional learning and enhance mental health services. (2.1b)

  • Increasing the percentage of families, staff, and students who rate school communication as “effective” (2.2a)

  • Ensuring that each student has equitable access to mental health support services (3.2d)

  • Plans for levy renewals (4.1a)

  • Review the long-term facilities plan (4.2a)

A complete list of goals is listed in the district’s Annual Operating Plan. Each goal is based on the pillars of the Strategic Plan. The board amended its strategic plan last spring, emphasizing Equity as the base for all its work, and refining work plans under the remaining four pillars of the plan: Quality Instruction and Curriculum, Partnerships, Social-Emotional Learning, and Stewardship. Equity can be seen as a throughline throughout the plan’s existing pillars. Each goal includes a list of action items that the district will take to ensure it can meet its goals.

“These goals were developed with a focus on the whole child: high achievement, rigorous learning, and support for their social-emotional needs,” said Superintendent Justin Irish. “This annual operating plan reflects our commitment to our students, staff, and families, and also sets realistic and measurable action steps in order to meet these goals.”

The district is in the process of updating its Strategic Plan, which is set to expire in 2022. The existing strategic plan, developed with robust community input, will serve as a strong basis for the new plan.

“The Annual Operating Plan aligns the district’s work with our school improvement plans, with a continued focus on priorities outlined in the strategic plan,” said Board President Bobbilyn Hogge.
