Anacortes School District Welcomes New Anacortes Middle School Principal, Dr. Nathan Plummer
The Anacortes School District is pleased to announce Dr. Nathan Plummer as the next Principal of Anacortes Middle School, beginning with the 2025–26 school year. His first official day will be July 1, 2025.
Dr. Plummer is a seasoned educator and lifelong learner with a deep commitment to student-centered leadership and inclusive school communities. He brings a wealth of experience from his current role as Principal of Tulalip Heritage High School in the Marysville School District, where he has helped transform the school by launching the innovative Big Picture Learning model. During his tenure, he has built strong relationships, improved student outcomes, and secured grant funding to support both students and school programming.
Dr. Plummer began his career in the Ocean Beach School District, where he taught science and health/fitness, coached multiple sports, and served as both Athletic Director and Dean of Students. He went on to become Assistant Principal at Ridgefield High School, where he led district assessment efforts. Later, as Principal of Sultan Middle School, he oversaw notable gains in student learning and staff culture, while also supporting district-wide efforts to strengthen Professional Learning Communities and Inclusionary Practices.
Throughout his career, Dr. Plummer has also been actively involved in school and district leadership, including serving on bargaining teams, budget and facilities committees, and advocating for public education through levy and bond efforts.
“With his warm leadership style, commitment to inclusion, and student-centered focus, Dr. Plummer is an outstanding match for Anacortes Middle School,” said Superintendent Dr. Justin Irish. “We are excited to welcome him to our district and are confident he will be a strong, supportive presence for both students and staff.”
Dr. Plummer shared, “I’m honored to join the Anacortes community and excited to partner with students, families, and staff in service of learning and belonging for every student. I believe in the power of relationships and the promise of public education to transform lives. I look forward to listening, learning, and leading together.”
Dr. Plummer’s leadership philosophy centers on connection and growth: “One student at a time; lead with love, truth, and transparency; always remain a learner.”
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Plummer enjoys spending time with his wife, Cassie, who is currently completing her degree in school psychology. They have two daughters—one a freshman at the University of Washington and the other a high school junior. He loves being with family, traveling, spending time near the water, working out, fishing, and golfing.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Nathan Plummer to the Anacortes School District and the Seahawk community!
