Return to in-person learning

Student arriving at school

Welcome to 2021! As we prepare to bring back more students to in-person learning on Monday, here are a few updates.

Case Count Clarification

Washington state recently revised its metrics for in-person instruction for students. Case count is not the only metric that we consider in bringing students back. We also take into consideration our health and safety protocols, physical distancing, class sizes, and staffing levels. While the current rate in Skagit County is above 350 cases, local health officials have reviewed our plans, and agree that we can continue to move forward with bringing students back. Please also note that this direction may change, especially as we prepare to bring other grades back. We will adjust our plans as needed.

Notification Procedures

We have established the attached procedures for notification in case of a positive coronavirus case in one of our buildings. Skagit County Health directs the notification process, and works with our nursing staff on contact tracing.

Return to In-Person Learning

Pre-K-5th grade students will return to in-person learning on Monday, Jan 11. Elementary students will remain in their same split A/B schedule by half-days, M, T, R, F, with Wednesday as a full remote-learning day. Students receiving Life Skills services, and some students of concern from AMS and AHS will also be returning to in-person learning on Jan. 11.

Students in grades 6th-12th grades will return to in-person learning on Feb. 8, which is the start of the second semester. Our current class schedule and health and safety protocols do not allow an earlier in-person return for these students. We are still working out details for the secondary schedule, and will provide further information next week.

We know that a return to in-person learning leaves some of you excited, and some of you fearful. Please know that the district is prepared with proper health and safety protocols, and that student and staff safety is our utmost priority. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your principal, or contact our office: (360) 503-1200 or information@asd103.org
