District statement against hate and bias

District statement against hate and bias
Posted on 03/18/2021
No hate

This week, our country witnessed yet another racist and deadly attack. Tuesday’s shootings in Atlanta targeting Asian Americans offer yet another warning that we must continue to take action against hatred, intolerance, and bias.

The Anacortes School District stands in solidarity with our Asian neighbors, colleagues, students, and friends. We embrace and celebrate the diversity of everyone in our community. Hate, violence, and intolerance will not be accepted within our schools and our community.

Every Anacortes student and staff member deserves to feel safe and respected in our schools. We will continue our work together to shift our own implicit biases and create an environment where all feel welcome and celebrated. The Anacortes School District and School Board work together every day to ensure that we live the district’s equity policy

If any student, family member, or staff member feels harassed, bullied, or discriminated against, we encourage them to reach out to our Civil Rights Coordinator Connie Sheridan, csheridan@asd103.org or (360) 503-1221, or any principal, director, or the Superintendent
