As we announced last week, the district continues to work through logistics to expand in-person hours for students. Our target for expanded in-person days and hours will be early May. We will keep families and staff updated weekly.

Last week, Governor Inslee announced that all Washington State schools can adopt the new federal CDC guidance released last week. All K-12 schools are required to follow the Washington State K-12 Guidance developed by DOH. This guidance includes revised 3-foot distancing between desks and continued 6-feet during meals and common areas.

Our teams are currently collaborating with employee labor groups to achieve a memorandum of understanding regarding the reopening plan. Our staff are working collaboratively, and we appreciate everyone’s proactive approach. Once we have identified solutions for fully implementing the Washington State K-12 Guidance, Skagit County Public Health will also need to approve each detail.

Classroom Space

The changes to physical distancing will allow more students into our classrooms. However, we are still working through solving space constraints. We are identifying various solutions to accommodate this challenge.

Schedules

Specific start and end times, daily, and weekly schedules will be released as we work through logistics related to Washington State K-12 Guidance, students' instructional needs, students' graduation pathways, transportation routes, staffing needs, and employee contracts.

Lunch Schedules

Because students need to remain six feet apart during meal times, we are identifying various solutions to space constraints, including adding lunchtimes, spreading students out into hallways, and eating in classrooms and outside when possible.

Staffing Needs

To make this work, we need additional staff in all areas: paras, bus drivers, custodians, and subs. Positions are posted on our website. Please encourage anyone who might be interested to apply: https://anacortesjobs.hrmplus.net/JobOpenings.aspx

District Facility Use

We know many of our community groups are anxious to get back into our spaces: gyms, fields, Brodniak Hall, etc. We are taking a cautious approach to reopen our facilities, allowing outdoor use to some youth-focused groups. We will continue to follow Department of Health guidance related to facility rental, athletics, and activities.

We will continue to keep you updated on our plans. If you have any questions, please contact your principal, or the district office: (360) 503-1200 or information@asd103.org
