District continues equity conversation

District continues equity conversation
Posted on 07/10/2020

The Anacortes School District is committed to providing an equitable environment for all students and staff. As stated in the district’s newly adopted Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policy, we will engage families to influence systemwide decision-making and create a sense of belonging that acknowledges and honors the identity and uniqueness of each student.

“We know that in order to reach our students at the margins, we need to do a better job of understanding the challenges they face and confront biases head on,” said Superintendent Justin Irish. “I am committed to bringing an equity lens to everything we do, every day, and will continue to commit staff and resources to this important topic.”

The district will host an Equity Forum on August 1, from 10 a.m. - noon, via zoom:

“This is just one step in an ongoing, reiterative process,” said Irish. “I am proud to be part of a community that is not only willing to have these conversations, but actively pushing for them. I look forward to our work together.”

The district has been engaged in a multi-year process to promote more equitable outcomes for its students. Additional resources can be found on the district’s website: http://www.asd103.org/departments_and_programs/equity_work
