Daniel Williams

Daniel Williams will take the helm at Anacortes High School as principal effective July 1, 2021. Williams most recently served as assistant principal at New Visions Charter High School for the Humanities in Queens, N.Y.

After an extensive and exhaustive hiring and vetting process, Williams was clearly ready and the right choice to lead the Seahawks. Williams was chosen for his depth and breadth of experience in both public and charter school settings. Williams has a strong and proven record as an instructional leader using data to drive decisions. Most recently, Williams created a systematic approach for student-intervention. Williams is a dynamic leader who develops strong relationships and buy-in with staff to promote engagement and willingness to transform the system. Williams has a proven commitment to promoting equitable outcomes for all students. This is just a small window into Williams’s leadership and the contributions he will bring to the high school, district and community.

The district conducted a nation-wide search that resulted in a very highly qualified pool of candidates. The interview process engaged multiple stakeholders including staff, students, parents, and other district administrators.

“I am excited for the vision and experience that Mr. Williams will bring to the high school and our district,” said Superintendent Justin Irish. “Mr. Williams’s focus on high student achievement, collaborative staff development, and equity made him a standout candidate. He also had excellent references. As with any search, we reached out to both formal and informal references. Everyone had glowing comments about Mr. Williams.”

Williams has also served as chair of the English Language Arts department, middle school social studies teacher, and humanities chair in other districts. He has a B.A in Corporate Communication and Justice Studies from New York University, and two Masters degrees: one in Evaluation and Measurement from Western Governors University and one in Public School Building Organization and Leadership from Columbia University.

“I am thrilled for this opportunity,” said Williams. “I believe deeply in supporting all students and developing a culture of high expectations, respect, and engagement. I have intentionally stayed away from social media throughout my professional life, so I look forward to getting to know you all in person.”

Williams will lead a staff of approximately 80 certificated and classified employees and a student body of approximately 700 students. The high school has been recognized in the past for its high graduation rates, and achievement of students in academics, arts, and extracurricular activities. The principal serves on the District’s Leadership Team and helps guide the district’s focus on equitable outcomes for all students, as well as the academic, extracurricular, and social-emotional learning programs at the high school.
