Volunteer Opportunities

  Recruitment Begins March 2018

AmeriCorps Washington Reading Corps Opportunity
Calling all future teachers, potential leaders, and trailblazers!  What if you could explore education as a career pathway, build a strong résumé, and earn a substantial financial award toward future college tuition all at the same time?  Join the Anacortes School District for one year as an AmeriCorp Washington Reading Corps literacy tutor!  This full-time (40+ hours/week) 10.5-month national volunteer position will change you, challenge you, and give you the opportunity to strengthen and support the community you love.  The service term begins mid-August or early September 2018.  For more information, contact ASD Community Engagement Coordinator Keiko McCracken at kmccracken@asd103.org.

AmeriCorps VISTA Opportunity
Do you have a deep interest in youth education and a passion for science and technology? Would you like to be in on the ground floor of an initiative to provide children in poverty with high-value skills that help foster creativity and resilience? Come join the Anacortes School District as our AmeriCorps VISTA Kids Who Code Coordinator! You will engage in resource and curriculum assessment, outreach to various school and community stakeholders, volunteer training, and the development of beginning computer coding workshops during an early-morning program for students. This full-time (40+ hours/week) one-year national volunteer position is an unforgettable opportunity to explore STEM in education and change outcomes for economically disadvantaged students. The service term begins July 2018.  For more information, contact ASD Community Engagement Coordinator Keiko McCracken at kmccracken@asd103.org.

Kindergarten Roundup
For volunteers who love interacting with our youngest students-to-be!  Kindergarten Roundup, set for April 25 - 27, is the district's annual registration and assessment of incoming Kindergartners - always a sweet moment for families of our newest students.  Volunteers help staff several stations, from door greeters to height/weight measurements and more. For more information, please contact ASD Community Engagement Coordinator Keiko McCracken at kmccracken@asd103.org.

Note:  All school volunteers must have a current (2017-18) volunteer application on file.  Our new online application will be available beginning August 29.  Paper applications are no longer accepted.
