School Board Vacancy

There will be a vacancy on the Anacortes School Board of Directors, effective March 21, as Karl Yost steps down from the board to devote more time to his work and family. 

The board will appoint someone to fill the remainder of Yost’s term, which ends in November, 2019.

The board is currently accepting applications for this upcoming vacancy.

Applications are due by February 15. 

Candidate will be contacted regarding next steps in the process. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for February 22. The newly appointed board member will be sworn in at the March 21 school board meeting.

The appointee may or may not choose to run for election in November. Filing week for the November, 2019 election is May 13-17, 2019. More information on local elections can be found on the Skagit County Auditor’s website.

The school board typically meets twice a month throughout the year: 

- Site visits to schools - typically on a Thursday morning from 8-10:30 a.m. 
- Study sessions - typically on a Thursday afternoon from 3-5:30 p.m. 
- Evening meetings - typically on a Thursday evening at 6:15 p.m. 

Study sessions and evening meetings take place on the same day. The board also holds 2 retreats during the year, and board members are expected to attend several conferences each year as their schedule allows.
