"Kids Who Code" AmeriCorps VISTA Position
The Anacortes School District is now recruiting for a very special one-year AmeriCorps-sponsored volunteer position to initiate a before-school beginning computer coding program for elementary students in poverty.  This full-time position, based at Island View Elementary, would help assess and coordinate resources, curricula, outreach to parents and community, and recruitment and training of skilled volunteer leaders in order to launch the program by September 2017.  The VISTA member would continue other initiatives already in progress as part of Island View's early-morning program and would support our academic tutors and social/emotional mentors program.

If you are excited about new technology, have some background in STEM-related subjects, love children, and would like an immersive experience in the world of education, we welcome you to apply to be a part of our team!

Kindergarten Roundup!
It's that time of the year again, a wide-eyed, wondrous time for our youngest students-to-be and their families!  Kindergarten Roundup is the district's annual pre-fall registration of incoming Kindergarten students April 26 - 28.  It's always a good time for volunteers, and many return year after year.  If you would like to join our team of committed volunteers who help to staff this event (short shifts are available), please contact ASD Volunteer Coordinator Keiko McCracken, kmccracken@asd103.org or 360.293.1234.

STEM Day for Preschool-Aged Children
 Volunteers are needed to lead hands-on STEM activities for ages 3 - 6 on Saturday, May 13, 10:00am - 12:30pm at the AMS Commons during a Family Fun Day for preschool families.  This is a chance to delve into all of the wonderfully fun and creative hands-on learning activities that fuel young minds!  As a STEM Day participant, you would provide materials and activities from your own sources.
